Our Success Stories
Petey (the dog formerly known
as DarWiNN)
Pictured with his "brother" Riley
Petey is an approximately one year old white boxer boy, who came to us
from the Nebraska Humane Society. Petey had obviously been left outside
for long periods of time by his previous owner because his ears and tail showed
signs of frostbite. When we had Petey checked out at the vet, we also found
he had kennel cough and he was heartworm positive. He was treated for these
aliments while in foster care with a club member and he bounced back quickly.
While recuperating Petey learned to play with balls, Frisbees and soft squeaky
toys. Petey was adopted by the Klaus family, Matt, Darci and their 9 month old
boxer Riley. Petey and Riley are best buds and they share everything.
Petey has
continued to work on his great obedience skills with the Matt and Darci. Darci
commented, "Petey is so
smart! We can't imagine life without him." We know
that Petey is enjoying the life every boxer aspires to have; a couch to lounge
on,
another boxer to romp around the yard with and the unconditional love of a lasting
family.
It is with a heavy
heart that I must add this note to Petey's Page.
In the winter of 2001, Petey was diagnosed with cancer. Through two traumatic
surgeries, daily medicine, and even visits to a holistic veterinarian, Petey
lost the battle gracefully. Darci said, "He was a trooper that always
kept us smiling." Three years ago the Klaus family adopted this "loving,
wonderful, sweetest, funniest, snuggly, clown in the world" and they
named him Petey. They gave him the best life any fur-child could have lived
and" he gave us back 400% in giggles, funny noises, (smells) and love."
